2:00a	About Re-Posting - Please Don't! A reader left me a "private message" asking about permission to repost/archive my stories at a different site. Unfortunately, she has privacy option on her LJ and no email listed so can't reply directly to her. Yet, it's probably a good idea to make sure people know this anyway. (Note: You should check your turn off the privacy option before using that feature if you need a reply.) So, on to the important part for anyone considering reposting my stories somewhere else: It's really important that you NOT do it. On the Profile page and at the full version of the Disclaimer (linked at the top of every story), it reads: "Distribution is limited. The distribution of this story is for personal use only. Any other form of distribution is prohibited without the consent of the author(s)." I have a list of the archives that I post at on my main page and in my FAQ. If there is an archive you think I should post at, feel free to send me the information. There are quite a number of reasons that most fan fiction authors don't like their work re-posted, and it's not just about credit. For me the big two are: First, I am a perfectionist. If I find an error in one of my stories, I like to be able to go to every place that story is posted and change it. I actually do this on a regular basis. Second, I would like readers to be communicating directly with me (and co-authors) not with the other poster. When someone leaves feedback, I'd want to read it and reply myself. I think that is one of the wonderful things about fan fiction, the fact that people can talk directly with the authors. The only exception I make is when I work with translators, and even then I have specific guidelines on how that is handled. It's fine, in fact, absolutely great, if you want to recommend our stories.
