Progress Report - What am I writing?
I know some of you have wondered a bit about the current state of works in progress. (My last update in this journal was HERE on June 12, 2008.) Several of you have noticed that all of the WIP on the Master List of Fiction have been labeled “on hold” and wondered about that. So first, yes, I am fine. I haven’t given up writing, or writing fan fiction. Yet, I have decided to devote more of my time to writing original fiction as well.
In particular, aveeno_baby and I have been working on a novel for publication. We have actually completed first drafts of several “slash” romances. The one we are working on at the moment is kind of a “gay werewolf romance” story. We have completed our first draft and working on the revisions now. I am very excited about the story. So much so that I checked out more than a dozen books on wolves for research. This isn’t your “usual werewolf” story. We wanted to give it a completely new twist and I think we have done that. We will keep you posted when it is sent off to the publisher.
The other big news is that I have recovered half a million words of “lost” fiction. In July 2007, one of the hard drives on our household server crashed. The hard drive was the one I kept all my fiction on and was unrecoverable. It hadn’t been backed up in six months. The co-authored work could be recovered, at least in part, through IM logs. We lost all the edits that comprise about half the work, but at least the rough drafts were still there. Yet, it would be a time consuming process to pull them out of logs and put them together into the files again. I was so upset by the loss of all those revisions and the work it would take, that I decided to wait. Now, fourteen months later, I have nearly finished recovering what I can from the logs – over 200,000 words of fan fiction and nearly 300,000 words of original fiction. We are looking over those stories to see which ones would be ready to edit.
I have currently caught up on all festival works. I decided not to sign up for new ones for a while since I have so much work in progress to complete. The Comfort of Old Enemies was included in the August hp_tarot Fest and received a “Best Epilogue-Compliant H/D” Award. The big reveal for the hd_inspired Back to School Fest will be this Sunday, Oct. 12. Then I will repost the story aveeno_baby and I wrote for that here. I also submitted a solo piece to the hp_darkfest, which will post some time after Oct. 31.
aveeno_baby and I have six long fan fiction works in progress at this point. The one holding our attention at the moment is Unexpected, a sequel to Undesirable. Although, with the recovery of the logs, Love’s Hostage may be the next work edited and posted.
Several folks have asked about the next book in The Bound Prince series. We have a first draft but aren’t currently working on it. sayingsorry_hh is taking some time away from co-authoring to work on a solo project, so all work with her is on “indefinite hold.” I am looking forward to reading what she writes.
I have a lot of “scenes” including a longer dark fic story in my head right now, so there will probably be more solo work from me as well.
